Les Corps serrent chez les Filles-Bustiers
EXPO / Installation
A friend of mine JPLEMIX, with the help of Sophie Cocheteux, shall be creating and recording a soundscape for an exhibition by the excellent Belgian artist PATRICK VRANCKX.

The exhibition features around 50 of PATRICK's pictures, and reflects his infatuation with the sea. Sophie and JPLEMIX have also made an amusing black and white silent movie titled "Never Trust a Mermaid". It will be quite an audio-visual exhibition.

Location: A 20 minute ride from BRUSSELS MIDI ( direction Louvain la Neuve ) in the Gare de Watermael, 2/4 ave des Taillis 1170 Bruxelles, Belgium.

The opening event is on Friday September 11th at 7pm, and the show runs until September 27th

Kick arse mixers : eclar
NUO 2.0 I love RANE. They make excellent mixers, but these mixers are dear for the average bod and I had to buy a new mixer - Perhaps, more of an excuse to dump the old one.

I wanted a simple 2 channel that was petit, cost not a lot, and was of excellent build & sound quality. Tall order? Luckily not. Here comes the NUO2 made by Ecler: The company is in Barcelona, and there are plenty of distributers in Britain; I didn't look into Spain. The mixer has really good sound quality and excellent faders and pots for trim hi/mid/low eq with full cut. The cross fader has the usual gradient settings, but what is unique is that the channel faders also have the same ability. XLR outs, RCA phones and RCA record are available on the back of this 6 inch wide mixer. I hooked it up to the FX send, which is fine, but the X return is too low back into the mixer. This is a known problem that is addressed in the next version - NUO 2.0. My easy solution is to run the FX return from the effects unit into the LineIn of Channel 3, which can be used for either mic or CD player/a LineIn. Effects can be played pre or post fader.
The price: You can pick the NUO2 up for just shy of two hundred pounds, and the NUO2.0 for a little bit more.
Thi is a club quality mixer for a bedroom price: Sorted ;)

9/9 UNITED FOR TRUTH
United For Truth 9/9 UNITED FOR TRUTH will be the first major protest rally in Europe uniting various movements and linking various issues like, poverty, free press, disappearance of democracy, the lack of investigation to the 9/11 - 7/7 - 3/11 attacks, monetairy reform, war on terror... Instead of every movement fighting for its own cause, we want to join forces, because all our common subjects can be linked down to just money and therefore capitalism that is defeating democracy.

History usually repeats itself.
Goering's comments were made privately to Gustave Gilbert, a German-speaking intelligence officer and psychologist who was granted free access by the Allies to all the prisoners held in the Nuremberg jail. Gilbert kept a journal of his observations of the proceedings and his conversations with the prisoners, which he later published in the book Nuremberg Diary. The quote below is from a conversation Gilbert held with a dejected Hermann Goering in his cell on the evening of 18 April 1946, as the trials were halted for a three-day Easter recess:

We got around to the subject of war again and I said that, contrary to his attitude, I did not think that the common people are very thankful for leaders who bring them war and destruction.

"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

UPRAVE 2006 Party was delayed for four hours by the friendly police, which left the organisors' nerves frayed. At 15hrs (!) the police decided that we could go ahead. Some acts had to be axed, but the live acts still played, along with myself albeit for only 45 mins, but we made up for it in the After_party. Respect to poor Claudio & Alfonso who were the most stressed; They made the party happen.

Running around the world; My headphones are borked ; Switch to Defeat!
I shall be in Los Angeles and Manhatten the 24th Sept until the 3rd Oct, and then off to Hawai'i for a week. Plus plans for a holiday trek in Patgonia the end of Nov until the start of Dec.
My Pioneer headphones (HDJ-1000) have been problematic:( The channels cut out intermittently, which makes them useless for anyone. I phoned Pioneer in the UK and spoke to Micheal, who DJs himself and uses these cups. He kindly explained what he thought the problem might be, + suggested how to mend it; He put a wee spare part in the post to Chile for nowt. What a great chap! We also discussed the feasabilty of adding a defeat button to future Pioneer mixers (one on each channel plus a master linked to a button). This ought to make it easier to monitor the tracks and spot hard to hear cue points, which might have been hard to hear with, eg, the treble/mid cut out.

RETURN FROM EUROPE
Just got from London & Bruxelles last Sunday. I admit I miss them both. The food is better in Bruxelles than London. Honestly, UK food sux. I've been thinking about new promotional ideas that revolve around cats and dogs! More later.
Adam Beyer's MAD EYE label is spitting out some lovely tunes. The Converstaion is a killer.

OPUS.01 Gracias to everyone who came along to the Barrio Ingles fiesta last Saturday the 28th July. Eric's industrial techno was kicking and the sound system invaded the street! I had a great set and you clearly enjoyed it. Lets hope that there'll be some more in Coquimbo. Its needs more of this stuff. If anyone found a small handsided dark green zip bag, then let me know as its got my earplugs in them... D'oh.
